Los Angeles  House of Lange Trip Report - Day 1

Los Angeles House of Lange Trip Report

Thursday, October 23rd 2008

I was just staring to adjust to my home time zone after having frown back on Sunday from my week in Japan when Karen and I flew out to LA on following Thursday for an event with the watch company A. Lange & Söhne called "The House of Lange."  Karen and I took a short commuter flight from Dayton to Cincinnati on Thursday afternoon, and flew from their to world famous LAX airport in Los Angeles.  Turns out my first celebrity sighting would come on this Cincy flight, as Doris Roberts (perhaps best known as the character Marie on the sitcom "Everybody Loves Raymond") was on our flight to LA - I spoke to her briefly in the airport and snapped this (poor) iPhone camera shot of her as we boarded:

Here we are leaving Cincinnati:

According to the in-flight map in the seat back monitor screen, it's about a 4 hour flight cross country to the west coast:

Once we got over Colorado we started seeing some neat ariel views of the Rocky Mountains:.

Before we knew it, we were landing at LAX:

Welcome to LA! :)

Lange was kind enough to send a driver to pick us up from the airport:

We would later find out that BMW partnered with A. Lange & Söhne for the event this weekend, and provided BMW SUV's for the guests to be transported in to and from the hotel.  Makes sense - they're both German luxury product companies:

The driver took us from LAX to our hotel for the next four days - the fabulous Sunset Towers hotel right on the famous Hollywood Sunset Strip.  The Sunset Towers hotel has a very interesting history in Hollywood going back to 1929 - you can read about it on the hotel's website.  Here's a few photos of our eighth floor suite - the entire hotel is decorated with tip of the hat to the glamorous "old Hollywood" period:

The view from the windows in the living room and bedroom of the surrounding Hollywood area was fantastic:

As excited as Karen and I were to be in LA (a first for both of us) we were also exhausted from a long day of traveling.  So after unpacking, we headed straight to bed for a good night's sleep, as the House of Lange event the next day would prove to be a long but exciting one!
