The 2nd Annual NYC GTG Of Online Watch Enthusiasts

Day 1 - Sunday, May18th 2008

With Sunday being our final day in New York, John Rigano and I headed out Sunday morning to try and beat the incoming rain, and get as much sight seeing and picture taking in we could before our 7pm flight back to Dayton.

We first headed toward Wall street to see our friend the bull:

Apparently the bull sculpture is anatomically correct. "The devil is in the details."

We then went over a couple of blocks to Wall street:

And then over a couple of more blocks to Ground Zero to check in on progress for the Freedom Towers. Looks like the foundation is coming along:

On the way to ground zero our cameras caught a counterfiet watch deal going down...just say "no" to fake watches kids! Where's this girls parents?!?!?

This guy actually had the gall to shove his briefcase in my face as we walked by.  When I didn't even look in it he said "Oh I know what you want...you want the GOOD stuff!"  He then reached in a hidden compartment of his brief case and brought out one of his "special reserve" pieces...a bad fake "folex" of a stainless steel Submariner with a blue dial and bezel.  I pointed out to him the Rolex doesn't even make a model in that particular configuration and walked off.  I guess he just didn't know who he tried to sell a fake Rolex too....  :D

We then headed over to battery park, seeing some nice sites along the way:

Rigano got this shot of my watch while we were looking at the Statue of Liberty:

Then it was off toward the Brooklyn Bridge - it was a very long walk.  I tried to hail this taxi, but they're even tougher to chase down than the traditional variety.

The Brooklyn Bridge:

Our intention was to walk at least part way across the bridge, but we were exhausted, and rain clouds were coming in quick so we opted to grab the subway, and took it to Grand Central Station.

From there it was a short walk to visit the famous Waldorf Astoria hotel:

By then it was getting later in the day, so we headed back to the hotel, ate lunch, collected our luggage and grabbed a cab with Leo and Christiaan from the GTG to LaGuardia.

Many, many thanks to Milos for organizing yet another successful event, as well as Chung Lee for organizing some great evening gatherings, and Stephanie for helping to coordinate!  I'm really hoping my schedule permits me to go again next year! A closing photograph, taken by the bartender at the hotel with Milos's camera:
